Travel around Australia with a Qantas Aussie AirPass

Ever since I got back from my fantastic trip to Queensland, Australia earlier this month, I haven’t been able to help but notice the plethora of fantastic deals on airfare Down Under. Earlier this week, I wrote about how flights to Australia are super cheap right now, which is great news for those who have always dreamed of a vacation to Oz, but who maybe couldn’t quite swallow the steep airfare.

My roommate is one of the lucky people taking advantage of the great airfare deals to Australia out there right now and is currently planning a trip to explore Australia this summer. Since Oz is such a big place, I have been trying to help her plan an affordable way to get around the country and hit some major hot spots, which is what led me to find the Qantas Aussie AirPass. Since inter-continental flights in Australia can be expensive on their own (much like inter-continental flights across the U.S.), bundling together your round-trip airfare to the states with various legs in Australia is a great way to save money.

The deal works like this– each zone pricing includes international flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco or Honolulu and three domestic Australian flights from US$999 (plus taxes and charges). You have to commence travel between July 26 and September 21 2009 and score a great deal on the Aussie AirPass, but book today because this special pricing expires June 30 2009.

Keep in mind, the Qantas Aussie AirPass is based on seasonality and zones. The price is based on the furthest zone you travel to.

Prices indicated are for travel from Los Angeles, San Francisco or Honolulu.

If you find yourself hanging out in tropical Queensland, there is certainly no shortage of fabulous things to do. On my recent trip, I had the time of my life while Sailing in the Whitsunday Islands and was amazed by the adventurous Top 10 Things to do in Cairns. If you just graduated from college or are in between jobs and you’re looking to extend your stay Down Under a bit longer, you can also look into working holidays in Australia by securing your working holiday visa.
