Transatlnatic Cruise starting at just $299

When my mother was little, my French grandmother would pack up the trunks and load her and my aunt on the boat every year to spend the summer months in her homeland in France. In these days when plane travel had not yet taken over as the main form of transportation between the U.S. and Europe, passenger ships were the way to cross the Atlantic. My mother has lots of great memories from these ships—the delicious food, the atmosphere, the movies, the whole bit.

While today most people opt for the 4-5 hour plane ride from the U.S. to Paris or London, there are still ships that make this transatlantic cruise. In fact, Norwegian Cruise Lines is offering up a fantastic deal on an 11-night cruise from Miami to London leaving on April 17, 2009. The ship will make 2 stops in Ponta Delgada and Vigo and rates start at an astonishingly low $299 a person (that’s just $28 per night). Plus, with plenty of dining options, as well as a champagne, martini, whiskey and beer bars, you are sure to keep entertained as you make your way across the pond. With prices this low, bringing back the glamour of the old transatlantic passenger ships is easy.
