The Caribbean just keeps getting cheaper
I was thrilled this winter when prices in and to the Caribbean fell so low that I was able to book my ticket to the Dominican Republic and hide out from the Pacific Northwest rain for a minute and bask in the warm Caribbean sunshine. The struggling economy made for some fantastic deals to many of the islands, even in peak winter season when you’d think plenty of snowbirds would be seeking asylum from long dreary winters.
But, just when I thought the Caribbean couldn’t get much cheaper, it just continues to do just that. Pair the bad economy and suffering travel industry with low season (summer) in the Caribbean and you’ve got a recipe for some pretty jaw-dropping specials. In fact, as I was reading in the New York Times earlier this week, there are all-inclusive packages in the Caribbean for as little as $49. That’s right—room, board, cocktails and azure waters all for less than $50/night.
For deals like the one mentioned above for $49/night at the Sun Village Resort and Spa in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, you’ll have to act fast as that price won’t last past June 17 at midnight. If you miss that sale, or are interested in checking out other destinations, cheapcaribbean.com is chock full of great specials and amazing deals for Caribbean vacations.
If you are wondering how to spend your time in the Caribbean when you aren’t laying on the beach (though this is a fine way to spend your trip), you may want to look into going to a baseball game in the Dominican Republic or think about camping in Culebra, Puerto Rico. If you are planning on spending most of your time hanging out on the beach, you may also want to check out the best beaches in the US Virgin islands before you settle on a spot and book your trip.
Especially for those coming from major hubs in the northeast (like New York), you can get 4, 5 or 7-night packages to places like Puerto Plato, Dominican Republic and Negril Beach, Jamaica for $50-$75 a night without too much trouble at all.
As the New York Times states, prices will fluctuate depending on your departure city. Flights from New York City cost an additional $40 to $100 a person, while flights from Denver can add another $350 a person. Miami is the only airport without an added charge.
