I found out about Megabus.com through a random article claiming you can get a bus fare for as low as $1. I wouldn’t say the article is worth reading because it’s only about 2 paragraphs, so just look at the quote snippet below:

“It works by the demand-managed concept that they use in some of the airlines. It always starts for $1 on every trip. The closer you get to the time of departure and the more people that book, the more expensive it gets.”

But the most expensive ticket right now is just $18.

“We have no stations. We don’t use a ticket staff and operate mainly on the phone, so it keeps our costs as low as possible and we pass that back on to the customer,” says Chamberlain.

This sounded like an interesting concept in bus travel, so we checked out some fares and compared them to Greyhound to see how it works in other markets. Their results are consistently 25-28% less, sometimes WAY less due to their model described above. Megabus.com also offers service in the UK
