A friend of mine recently took a road trip across the United States, and he went to Niagara Falls for a couple days. It’s actually one of the few tourist destinations in the country that I’ve yet to visit, so I was doing some research and I discovered that you can get there for next to nothing these days.

The cheapest airport to fly into is the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, which is plenty close to the falls themselves. You can fly on JetBlue from either New York City or Boston for $49 each way (plus a bit of tax), and on Airtran from Los Angeles, Las Vegas, or San Francisco for $119 each way! Are you kidding me with these fares? It used to be that to find cheap tickets you’d have to look all over the place searching for a special promotion, but these days it’s usually just a matter of visiting the site of the airlines that go to your destination.

Last summer these prices were probably at least double what they are charging now. If you go to Niagara and check out that Maid of the Mist boat ride, which my friend says was actually very cool, you might be on the same boat as me, literally. Right now I’m trying to figure out if I can take a long enough weekend that this trip would make sense in the coming month. This friend had a car and he mentioned that Buffalo airport parking really came in handy since he decided to take a tour that left from the airport rather than drive himself. I’m not sure I’d do such a thing, but it’s good to know that it’s available and fairly cheap.
