Fly to Australia with a free New Zealand stopover

The fine people at Air New Zealand are running a web-only special for the rest of the month for flights from the United States to Australia at prices starting at US$1,152. These are pretty good fares to begin with, but what makes this sweeter is you can do a free stopover in Auckland along the way, so you can combine a tour of New Zealand with a Australia vacation without having to make that long flight twice.

Even more interesting, if you are flying from Los Angeles you can also stop in the Cook Islands, Samoa, or Tonga for US$100 each. I did a similar thing stopping in Tahiti from New Zealand to Los Angeles, and it’s a really incredible chance to see places you might not want to pay to fly to individually from home.

That’s funny! It’s almost like Kiwi Air are saying “we know you’re not going to come here, but at least stop over when you’re heading to Oz.”
