Amtrak has intriguing weekend specials

Here’s something you don’t see every day, a notice about specials on train travel in the USA. With airfares going ever higher, many of us are lamenting the fact that train travel in this country is normally even worse, plus it’s deadly slow to most places. The exception to this rule is the “Northeast Corridor” which extends from Washington DC up to Boston, with New York City as sort of the hub.

Well, Amtrak has some really interesting weekend specials through this area, that seem to max out at $49 each way based on RT purchase. The catch is that you have to start and complete your journey over a single weekend, only including Saturday and Sunday, so this deal is best for a quick visit over a Saturday night. Nevertheless, you can go all the way from Washington DC to New Haven, Connecticut for $98 round trip, which is much cheaper than any airfare these days, and also much more pleasant because the trains there actually go fast. Check out all the Amtrack weekend deals.
