About
CheapTravelScout.com is all about Cheap Travel. We’re constantly scouring the series of tubes and any other resource we can find whether it’s a local travel agent or an advertisement somewhere to try and find the best travel deals out there, and screen out the crap that so many companies push.
We’re signed up to hundreds of marketing emails so you don’t have to. Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity, Priceline, and everything else under the sun we can get our hands on. It’s almost mind-numbing, I tell ya!
Send your deals & tips to us:
If you’re a travel agent, a PR person, work for an online travel company and would like to submit deals or just have some tips on how to travel cheaply, please use the email address on the top right of this page and send us an email to take a look at. No promises though - ’cause if your “deal” turns out to be crap, we’ll call it out as such and you’ll look bad and everyone on the internet will be laughing at you just like back in grade school. Serious.
Meet your Cheap Travel Scout scouts:
Since this is such a task to stay on top of, we have a number of people on our team who focus primarily on a region of the world that interests us so we can help find deals that will interest like minded travelers also interested in similar travel styles or destinations. But who are we kidding? The US and A is so ginormious and has so much traveling going on that we all split that up in order to do it justice.
Cristina – Eastern Europe and Africa
Cristina has always been in love with Eastern Europe and Africa. When she’s not visiting those countries or working, she’s daydreaming about the next romantic destination to travel with her husband.
While working as travel agent she learned how to navigate among the offers and find the best price. You won’t catch her backpacking although she has no problems staying in a private room in a hostel. Maps are her friend and she made a hobby out of exploring the cities using public transport. She is just as pleased to find a great deal in a 3 star hotel during the shoulder season as she is to find cheap flights or train tickets on short notice for a spontaneous trip.
The best way to describe what Cristina is looking for would be “couples-friendly on a budget” - a bit of romance, some adventure, local flavor and “haggling” for the best price.
Daved - Central & South America
Daved is one of the stereotypical stories of the American who visited Costa Rica and never wanted to leave. Leave he did, but only to return a few years later and make it home. He currently lives in the small beach town of Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica with his fiance and two dogs.
Aside from Costa Rica, Daved has traveled all throughout the Americas and has plans to live in Argentina once he is done in Costa Rica, whenever that is. We wonder when would someone be “done” in Costa Rica, but I suppose nomads get bored easily. He is a budget traveler through and through, which probably explains that lack of European stamps in his passport. He likes to visit and live in the cheap destinations so that he can live it up without spending too much cash.
Jessica - Central & Southern Europe
Although Jessica loves pretty much everything European, she’s got a special fondness for Italy, France and the United Kingdom, having visited all of those places regularly and repeatedly. She’s currently working on obtaining a visa that will allow her to relocate to Italy, and the only thing that keeps her sane while navigating the murky waters of Italian bureaucracy is the promise of one day living a short flight or train ride away from the European countries she loves so dearly.
Jessica loves bargain hunting for just about anything you can spend money on, including travel - and even if she can’t use the money-saving tips she finds, she’s equally as happy passing them on to others who can use them. Especially with the euro rising in strength, it’s more important than ever to be a budget-conscious traveler in Europe - and Jessica thinks the only thing sadder than spending too much on a trip to Europe would be to not go to Europe at all.
Mika - Pacific Islands & Caribbean
Mika LOVES just about any place tropical. When he’s not working (and even when he is) his brain cycles are constantly filled with dreams of traveling to every island in the world, and living somewhere in the tropics. He doesn’t yet know how he’d support this habit, but owning a bar or small boutique hotel sounds like fun.
He’s not your stereotypical budget traveler who backpacks around the world, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to spend more than he has to. Finding $99/night deals at 6-star hotels and super cheap flights are just a few things that give him great joy. The best way to describe what he’s looking for is budget-luxury, and he’s got a nose for finding loopholes and other creative ways to negotiate for the best deal possible while avoiding the phrase “I give you cash, right now.”
Roger - Northern Europe & Asia
Roger was dragged along on a couple of Europe trips with his family by the age of 8, and hasn’t stopped traveling since. He’s managed 6 continents so far, and over 40 countries visited, not even including a couple of exotic airport stopovers. He’s toured Asia a couple of times, and his Europe experience includes dozens of trips and even a stint living in Amsterdam.
His philosophy is to travel as often as he can, and the best way to pull that off is do everything as cheaply as possible. Even when the bank account isn’t drained, he’s constantly searching for the cheapskate approach, so searching for deals seems to be part of his messed-up genetic code.

Our Scouts
Daved likes to tell people he travels around the world looking for new adventures. Really that means he is too cheap to want to live in the United states full time. Instead, he travels and lives in countries where he can make his American dollars go far.
Jessica loves to travel, but she left her heart in Italy many years ago. She's working on relocating to Italy in order to retrieve it, but in the meantime she loves making all kinds of travel easier for others.
Cristina has always had some connection with Greece, either by writing about it or sending people to visit it. Her love for the entire region combined with the love for traveling have always been present in her writing about places the world around.
Julie caught the travel bug early after a family road trip to the tip of Baja as a kid. Two stints of living in France and a backpacking trip in Latin America later, and Julie's love for travel and desire to explore the world was steadfastly affirmed.
